We need some more judges at the upcoming Ethics Olympiads. These events are designed to foster an interest in Philosophy and develop critical thinking skills in young people. We are keen to involve tertiary-based Philosophy students. We pay our judges an honorarium of $200 AUD for each Olympiad. If you would like to help, we need reliable people on the following dates in particular...but any date in September or November would be helpful.
14th Sept, 2nd Nov, 14th Nov & 16th Nov
You will find a registration form at the link below, together with the exact times and dates of the Ethics Olympiads: CLICK HERE

Title: Neural Hardware for the Language of Thought

Abstract:The Language of Thought (LOT) hypothesis posits that at least some cognitive processes are explained by appropriate manipulation of language-like vehicles. Language-like vehicles do not process themselves; they are processed by appropriate hardware. Since the organ of cognition is the nervous system, whether language-like vehicles and the hardware needed to process them in accordance with LOT are available depends on how the brain works. We distinguish between different versions of LOT, articulate the software and hardware they require, and consider which if any versions of LOT are supported by neuroscientific evidence.
