[SydPhil] Critical Antiquities Public Lecture - John Bellamy Foster

Dear all,

Ben Brown and I are thrilled to announce the 2024 Critical Antiquities Public Lecture. This year’s lecture will be delivered by John Bellamy Foster (University of Oregon), a world-leading scholar of Marx and Marxist ecological thought who has written extensively on Marx’s relationship to ancient philosophy, especially Epicurus.

John’s lecture is entitled, ‘Breaking the Bonds of Fate: Epicurus and Marx.’ In this lecture, John will be presenting his new discoveries—which he is excitedly working up into a new book—regarding the relationship between Marx and Epicurus and how it concerns Marx’s ecology and contemporary environmental politics.

We are also privileged to be joined by two discussants: David Konstan (Classics, New York University) and Anna Sturman (Political Economy, University of Sydney).

The lecture will be held on Zoom on Friday, March 1, 2024, 12:30-14:30 (Sydney time). Here is the time in other locations:
